Elective Courses for 2023-2024

Electives are high school level subjects that are not part of the required curriculum.

 

Physical Education

(Required for 9th and 10th grade, Elective for 11th and 12th grade)

Course Description: The goal of Physical Education is to teach students the importance of physical health and promote physical fitness in a fun environment while developing teamwork, sportsmanship, social skills and mental health while improving focus and academic performance. An important objective is to improve and maintain students’ current health and set them on a path to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.

 

Art

(This course is offered each year to different grades depending on scheduling)

Course Description: This course utilizes creative skills and imagination where students will create visual works in the form of drawing and painting.  Students will learn and apply various elements and principles to produce creative art projects that reflect their understanding of these concepts.

                   

 

Drama

(This course is offered to the 6th-12th grade)

Course Description: Students in 6th through 12th grade may elect to participate in CCA’s Drama program.  Working with the creative faculty at CCA, students have an opportunity to participate in one to two drama presentations per school year.  CCA’s unique program produces original productions written by one of our gifted, talented teachers.  Roles are tailored to the actors who portray them, and because these are original productions, students also have input and the flexibility to change their lines or evolve their character as they see fit.  Past productions include “Mayhem at the Stanford Arms,” “Cornelius Bartley and the Case of the Festering Flowers,” “Cornelius Bartley and the Case of the Maligned Mayor,” “A Diner, A Dance and a Dilemma” and “Pirates and Pearls.”

                    

 

Home Economics

(Offered to the 12th grade)

Course Description: This course is an introduction to food preparation techniques and basic cooking and baking skills.  Also covered are basic concepts of kitchen organization and operation, basic terminology use of standardized recipes, recipe conversion and food composition.  You will gain practical experience through the application of skills in food preparation, menu planning, serving meals, nutrition and sanitation.  The skills you acquire in this course will prepare you for “real world” experiences in the kitchen, as well as give you a head start should you pursue a career in the culinary field.

 

Mentor Program

Course Description: Calvary Chapel Academy offers a mentor program where upper level high school students provide advice and guidance to lower grade students.  These students are seeking additional help and support in various subjects including Math, Science, English, Reading, Spanish, Science Project and specialty areas, such as, elementary school level reading groups.

 

Worship Band

(This course is offered to the 9th-12th grade)

Course Description: High School students, who feel called to the Lord to worship, have the opportunity to participate in the school’s worship band.  Students practice weekly and lead the Junior High and Senior High Chapel every Wednesday morning.  During Chapel, time is set apart from daily, busy school life allowing students and faculty to worship together and to be in His word.  Participating as a team helps students evolve their passion for music while building their spiritual discipline using their talents to glorify God.

                   

 

Music Lessons

(Extracurricular)

Course Description: Piano lessons are currently offered during after-school hours at very reasonable rates.  If you are interested in learning how to play the piano or want to fine-tune your skills, Mrs. Nichols,  CCA’s highly qualified and talented music teacher, will help you attain your goals.  For more information, please contact the CCA office at 781-871-1043.
